Did you think that wearable technology is just about bringing our current high-tech devices into the clothes we wear? Then let Younghui Kim, artist and professor, show you how much more is possible when technology becomes wearable. Wearable technology is not about bringing the computer and smart phone as we know them today into our sweaters and trousers, but about enabling entirely new forms of communication and other forms of expression by distributing various types of modern technology, traditionally hard, cold and distinctly external from our bodies, into the soft fabrics that we wear closest to our skin and that follow our every movement.  You will not type on a keyboard integrated in your jacket sleeve to control this technology, instead it will use your natural body movements, as well as the environment in which you find yourself throughout the course of the day, as means of new forms of data input as well as output.  Younghui gives several inspiring examples of how an open mindset creates unexpected possibilities through the convergence between art, clothing design and technology. Extrapolating, she concludes that only our imagination limits what can be done in wearable technology.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
