Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens: The 5 & Dime at TEDxJacksonville

A group of artists and friends came together with a common goal: to make a change in the Jacksonville cultural arts community. From this, The 5 & Dime, A Theatre Company, was born. It started with a simple question, "Why not us?" And so we offer this: why not YOU?

At TEDxJacksonville 2013 The 5 & Dime performed an excerpt from ELEGIES FOR ANGELS, PUNKS AND RAGING QUEENS. Elegies For Angels, Punks and Raging Queens features songs and monologues inspired by the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and Edgar Lee Masters's Spoon River Anthology. Each of the monologues is written from the perspective of characters who've died from AIDS and the songs represent the feelings of friends and family members dealing with the loss.

The performers are Kevin Roberts, Josh Waller, Olivia Chernyshev and Drew Brown. The show is directed by Lee Hamby with Musical direction by Laura Peden. Laura Peden will be on piano and Micah Davis on guitar.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
