This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. How can business organize itself to meaningfully address big-picture problems like hunger, poverty, war, and catastrophic climate change--primarily by thinking differently about resources?
Turning hunger and poverty into sufficiency, war into peace, and pending climate catastrophe into planetary balance are all based on looking at resources -- who has how much, how it's used, how the waste products are disposed of. Business, as both a creator of the problems and a cradle for innovation, can facilitate these transitions. Shel Horowitz shows us how. 8 May 2014

Starting as a teenager more than 40 years ago, Shel Horowitz, a Business Strategist from Hadley, Massachusetts, USA, has combined innovative marketing thinking with green activism.

Shel's eighth book, Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green, is published in three languages and was an Amazon.com environmental category bestseller at least 30 months. He's written an internationally syndicated monthly column, Green And Profitable, since 2010. He owns the very first business to achieve Green America's Gold-Level certification and was inducted into the National Environmental Hall of Fame. His worldwide consulting client list includes businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations. He's frequently quoted in major media, including repeat appearances in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Entrepreneur magazine.

This year, Shel has begun to focus on Business For a Better World: how businesses can make a difference on the biggest problems of our time.

Shel has spoken to audiences as diverse as a customer service conference in Istanbul, a public relations conference in Davos, Switzerland, and major green events including the Sustainable Foods Summit, SolarFest, Gulf Coast Green, Bioneers-by-the-Bay, and repeat appearances at Green America's Green Festivals.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
