Mimi doesn't think that tearing down industrial structures and replacing them with new housing is a necessary or healthy part of urban renewal. Old factories that many see as "gritty" or outdated can be turned into thriving businesses and become a core part of a city's economy. Somerville's Ames Business Park is a perfect example of this point, and in her talk Mimi argues that more cities should look for ways to make good use of these spaces instead of tearing them down.
