Regardless of one's intention, one's actions always influence the surrounding environment. Little Bit of Love is a project that shows how a student was able to positively impact his community using a cardboard box-knitting technique. David Hong explains the innovative procedure he used to knit each scarf, how it challenged and changed his school community and the project's underlying message.
About the Speaker:
David Hong was a Grade 12 Senior student at the American International School Hong Kong in 2012-13. He was the winner of the 2012 EARCOS Global Citizenship Award, an award given to a Grade 11 student who has shown the greatest concern and achievements in community service to the school, and the local and global community. As President of the Human Rights Club, he has organized numerous events to raise awareness and funding for humanitarian causes such as Art Attack and 24 hours race. He has participated in Global Issues Network Conferences (GIN) in Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Manila to gain insight in practical methods to solve global problems. Inspired by the workings of keynote speakers and delegates of GIN, David initiated a creative project called "Little Bit of Love", in which he encouraged students at the school to knit and donate box-knitted scarves to the homeless and underprivileged community in Hong Kong.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
