About the Speaker:
Nicholas Yang received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from California Institute of Technology in 1977, followed by a MSc degree in Electrical Engineering and MBA degree from Stanford University in 1978 and 1982 respectively. He started his career as a senior design engineer in 1978 at Intel Corporation, and subsequently, as a strategic management consultant for Bain & Company. In 1983, he left the USA and came to Hong Kong to be the Deputy Group Managing Director of Shell Electric Mfg. (Holdings) Ltd., managing infrastructural and technology ventures. Then, he joined JDS Uniphase Corporation in 1999 as Vice President of Strategic Planning. In 2002, Nicholas became senior director of several well-known venture capital investment firms. He was then appointed CEO of Hong Kong Cyberport in 2003. In 2010, he joined Hong Kong Polytechnic University as Executive Vice President with more than thirty years of solid experience and a winning track record. He served as member of the ICT Services Advisory Committee, Hong Kong Trade Development Council during 2004-10. He has been the Vice Chairman of Monte Jade Science and Technology Association of Hong Kong since 2006, and Councillor of Hong Kong Intellectual Property Society since 2008. He has also served as advisor to many industry associations, and committee member of numerous government departments and universities.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
