Over the course of its history, the United States has become one of the world's centers for creativity and innovation. What elements have influenced the development of American creativity? Are there particular choices the United States has made to encourage creativity and innovation? In his remarks, Scott Robinson discusses the historical, cultural and other factors that have helped to drive the U.S. creative culture industry.

About the Speaker:
Scott Robinson assumed duties as the Spokesman and Deputy for Public Affairs at the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong in July, 2012. Mr. Robinson began his career as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State in 2003. His previous assignment was as the Cultural Affairs Officer and Director of the American Cultural Center at the American Institute in Taiwan. Scott's other consulate postings include Chennai, India and Beijing, China. He also studied Mandarin Chinese at the Department of State's Chinese Language and Area Studies School. Before joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Robinson was a corporate legal assistant at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York City. Prior to that, he enjoyed a career as a professional actor, including stage productions at the La Jolla Playhouse and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of California, San Diego. He speaks German, French and Mandarin Chinese.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
