The Stanford Flute Ensemble is small group of flutists from the Stanford community that performs a variety of classical and contemporary pieces arranged for C, piccolo, alto and bass flutes. Karen Van Dyke directs the ensemble and has been with the group since it began in 1996. In this time, the ensemble has performed at three National Flute Ensemble conventions in the cities of New York (2009), Anaheim (2010) and Las Vegas (2012). At the New York City convention in 2009, the Stanford Flute Ensemble gave a live national broadcast under the baton of world-renowned flutist Sir James Galway.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
