Elizabeth Albert is an artist and assistant professor at St. Johns University. Her paintings and works on paper have been exhibited nationally and are in the collections of the Butler Institute, the Naples Art Museum, and the International Museum of Collage, Assemblage, and Construction. She has received fellowships from the NEA/ Mid-Atlantic Arts Council, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc., and the MacDowell Colony.

For the past three years she has been engaged in an exploration of New York City's lesser-known waterfront areas and is has recently completed a curatorial project on this subject entitled "Silent Beaches, Untold Stories: New York City's Forgotten Waterfront." Her presentation will address resilience of the New York City shoreline and discuss highlights from the exhibition and the academic gallery's potential as a catalyst for interdisciplinary and campus-wide learning and engagement.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
