Simulating Bird Songs to Study Cultural Evolution: Dr. Gillian Crozier at TEDxLaurentianU

Dr. Gillian Crozier discusses songbirds and its translation to cultural selection mechanisms. She describes how bird songs can be informative in learning about culture, and how this can play a critical role in developing a unified theory of cultural evolution. She introduces us to songbird species whose songs appear to be adapted to the acoustic properties of the habitats they occupy. She demonstrates how computer simulations of these birds and their songs can help us learn about how cultures adapt and change over time.
