This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Elizabeth's poem "The End of the World is Nigh so let's all get High and go Shopping" paints a picture of our addictive, consumer western culture and calls us to wake up and remember that 'we are the people we have been waiting for', full of brilliance, inventiveness, endless possibility and hope.

Elizabeth Routledge ran away to Bellingen 13 years ago to raise her two beautiful daughters. She is ever grateful as she works on finding a balance between working, family and her own creative pursuits. Her biggest therapy, apart from walking on the beach or in the bush, is writing poetry and in 2010 she discovered Slams, took out the Nimbin Performance Poetry World Cup and the first (and last) Peats Ridge slam in 2012. She hosts the popular Bello Slam as part of our Readers & Writers festival and thinks Spoken Word is an art that is continually being rediscovered and embraced by young and old alike.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
