One of the best preserved temples in Egypt, The Temple of Edfu is off the regular tourist route.Dedicated to the falcon god Horus, it was built between 237 and 57 BC. Through the centuries the temple became buried under 39 feet of sand, and an arson attempt has blackened the ceiling of the hypo style hall.
When Ruth and I were there, we were the only people in the complex. We spent about 4 hours exploring and were mesmerized by the carved reliefs on the interior and exterior walls.
