Barbara Ryan demands that all earth-oberservation data collected from governments and institutions should be open and available to everyone. In various examples she shows how this would reduce significantly hunger and improve the quality of live of everybody. Earth observations data should be seen as we see the Earth from Space, without political boundaries, as an entire system.

Barbara J. Ryan is Secretariat Director of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) an international, intergovernmental organization dedicated to integrating Earth observations to enable government, private sector and science leaders to make better informed decisions across nine Societal Benefit Areas including agriculture, biodiversity, climate, ecosystems, energy, disasters, health, water and weather. Prior to GEO, she served as Director of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Space Programme and Associate Director for Geography at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
