Games for changing social behavior: Ioustinos Sarris at TEDxAUCollege

Ioustinos Sarris is co-founder of Reciclata, a social game that combines recycling and gamification. Ioustinos believes it is easy to spend money to help solve social and environmental problems. However to solve problems we must focus on the roots of the problem, which is the behavior of each individual. If we motivate people to put effort and time into recycling, donating and sharing we could tackle major problems. People spend time play casual games because they are fun, rewarding and designed to become habits. What if we used the fundamentals of game design to motivate people to act more responsibly towards the community and the environment?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
