This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Scott McKenzie shares how his classroom has used Minecraft to give a voice to students who did not feel successful in school. He shares his experiences on how previously disengaged students have been transformed and how they now look to connect with classrooms around the world.

Scott McKenzie is an elementary teacher with Waterloo Region District School Board. He currently teaches Grade ¾ at New Dundee Public School. Scott was born in Scotland, grew up in Canada and started his teaching career teaching English in Japan.

He has attended and shared his learning on technology at EdCamp Waterloo and EdCamp London. A strong believer that all children should fit in and feel welcome at school, Scott utilizes technology to foster a sense of confidence in the struggling learners in his class.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
