This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In his role as a secondary principal, and member of the WRDSB Technology Steering Committee, Ed Doadt has the unique opportunity to connect resources, both at the board and school level, to teachers who are doing innovative work in the classroom. Citing examples from the current projects at the board and at the school, he explores how these connections help keep students engaged in their classes, by supporting the teachers who are doing creative and innovative work.

Ed is the principal at Huron Heights Secondary School in Kitchener, Ontario. He started his career as a chemistry and physics teacher, and has been a department head and vice-principal.

He is a member of the Waterloo Region District School Board Information Technology Steering Committee, and has long been involved in Computers Across the Curriculum groups in several schools. Ed has presented at conferences across North America on the use of social media in schools. Outside of education, Ed studies the Battle of Gettysburg, and is active in management planning with Parks Canada in Tobermory.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
