New paradigm for Education in Greater China: Respect and Challenge | Judy Tsui | TEDxHongKongED

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Judy Tsui is the chairman of Arbatus capital partners limited and the Director of Joy Sprouts Inc. In her talk she stressed the importance of allowing our children to make mistakes in the process of learning. Her talk covers her personal experience with setting her children free from the nest and the realization that in order for them to grow and realize their full potential we must allow them to make their own decisions and mistakes.

Professor Tsui is now Chairman of Arbutus Capital Partners Limited, Director of Joy Sprouts, Inc. and Senior Advisor of Institute of New Economic Thinking. She is also an Elected Member of the Election Committee for the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Government representing the Accounting Functional Constituency (2006 and 2012). She was Vice President (International and Executive Education) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Chair Professor of Accounting at PolyU from March 2010 until February 2014. She is a Canadian Chartered Accountant and was the first to be awarded a PhD in Accounting in Hong Kong. Professor Tsui holds positions as Honorary Professor and Visiting Professor at several top universities in the Mainland. She has been appointed as a Visiting Scholar of the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA and is currently an Honorary Professor of the University of Warwick in the U.K. She was the first professor in Accounting who was awarded Cheung Kong Chair Professorship by the Ministry of Education in the Mainland. Currently, Professor Tsui serves as a member of the Research Grants Council (2008-2014), and she served as a member of University Grants Committee (2008-2013), both appointed by the Hong Kong SAR Government. She has been appointed Member of Nominating Committee of International Federation of Accountants (2012-2014). Professor Tsui served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of China Vanke Co. Ltd. in the Mainland from April 2005 to March 2011 and as its Consultant (2011-2013).
