This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Can peer pressure work to enhance academic and socio-emotional skills? Leyla Bravo-Willey asks this question at TEDxTeachersCollege 2014. She shares how the implementation of "Trust Circles" in Harlem middle schools has allowed for the constructive use of peer pressure.

Leyla Bravo-Willey has fashioned a career out of transforming the classroom environment. As a Teach for America corps member her South Bronx classroom was featured by NBC news; in 2012 Bravo-Willey was again profiled by NBC in Education Nation: Teacher Town Hall with Brian Williams. Bravo-Willey has focused on character education, something she has honed as both a teacher and a dean of students. Bravo-Willey is most widely known for her work with KIPP Circles and its partnership with Angela Duckworth's Character Lab at the University of Pennsylvania.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
