What is gender-based violence?
According to the Istanbul Convention, gender-based violence and violence against women is a gendered act which is ‘a violation of human rights and a form of discrimination against women’. It is one of the most prevalent human rights violations in the world. It knows no social, economic or national boundaries. And worldwide, an estimated one in three women will experience physical or sexual abuse in her lifetime.
