Conrad Bercah is an architect and the author of West Workroom, Towards a New Sobriety in Architecture (Charta, 2008), which was hailed as the best book of 2008 by Il Giornale dell'Architettura and Il Giornale dell'Arte. He also authored Archipelago Town, a tactical planning concept for expanding urbanity, and the forthcoming (2014) Water-Line, Memos for a Bare Architecture, an app depicting a new architectural theory.

Based on case studies and historical developments in urban spaces, Conrad conceptualizes what he thinks is the ideal city. Berlin and Venice are two key examples as to what constitutes and "archipelago-town." They feature artificial landscaping, green space, and are ultimately the consequence of thoughtful city planning. These are the models upon which we should focus urban development for the future.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
