The Missouri Department of Conservation encourages you to discover nature and try bowfishing.
Derived from archery, bowfishing is using a bow with an arrow tied to a string and a reel.
Once a fish is arrowed, barbs hold onto the catch so you can retrieve it.
There is no catch and release with bowfishing, so fisherman need to be prepare to utilize their catch once they have taken it.
Bowfisherman target nongame fish species such as carp, gar, drum and buffalo.
Bowfisherman can fish anytime of the year, but typically it is a spring and summer activity due to the amount of floodwater available to fisherman.
And while you can fish at all times of the day, bowfishing is mostly done in the evening, under lights.
Bowfisherman can use a boat or walk along the shoreline in shallow water to sight fish.
Before heading out to bowfish, make sure you have the proper fishing permit and know the regulations for the area you fish.
