Ingredients

10-12 sheets puff pastry ( 30cm x 40cm )

For the filling
500 ml of fresh milk
2 tbsp of all purpose flour
2 tbsp of cornstarch
½ cup of granulated sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp of butter
2 tsp of vanilla sugar

To decorate
Icing sugar or chocolate sauce
Ground pistachio

Preparation

1- For the cream, combine 500 ml of fresh milk with 2 tbsp of all purpose flour, 2 tbsp of cornstarch, ½ cup of granulated sugar and 1 egg yolk. Cook while mixing until thickens.
2- Add in 1 tsp of butter and 2 tsp of vanilla sugar just before taking the pan off the stove. Whisk and set aside to cool down.
3- Lay the puff pastry dough on the kitchen counter, let it soften and cut 5-cm squares. If you want to have round shaped dessert, you can cut circles with the help of a cup.
4- Line an oven tray with parchment paper and place the puff pastry squares on top. Since dough would shrink while baking, squares can be lined closely.
5- Bake in an oven preheated at 180 °C until the dough puff up and golden brown slightly.
6- After the squares cooled down fully, split open and spread the cream on each side. If desired, fruits can be placed on cream layer.
7- You can decorate with icing sugar or chocolate sauce.
8- Refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
