This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Emilie Marchand, also known as Lola Torch, shares her story of burlesque dancing, personal acceptance, and confidence, followed by an invigorating burlesque performance.

Emilie Marchand, also known as Lola Torch, is a local singer and performance artist who has been a core member of Black Cherry Burlesque for 8 years. She grew up in Round Lake, New York where she studied music and dance and performed in school choirs, dance productions, and interpretive movement groups. She moved to Tucson in 1999 and immediately became a staple in the local music scene with her velveteen vocals at the front of various musical projects such as The Fashionistas, Pearl Handled Pistol, and Kiss and the Tells. She began singing in Black Cherry Burlesque shows and eventually merged her singing talents with the art of striptease after her immersion in the burlesque world led to a heightened level of confidence. She has since become a mentor to aspiring burlesque artists and offers workshops that seek to heal and empower women to love their bodies and strengthen their confidence.
