The Missouri Department of Conservation wants to help you to discover nature and learn more about the channel catfish.

One of the most abundant fishes in Missouri, channel catfish are most common in farm ponds, small lakes, and lowland rivers.

Catfish have very poor eyesight and rely on taste, touch and smell to locate food.
Because of their strong sense of smell, catfish will smell the bait on an angler's hook, which means there's no need to move around a lot when fishing.
They will come to you.

The Missouri Department of Conservation routinely stocks channel catfish each fall to maintain populations in smaller waterways.

To find places near you to fish, go online to MissouriConservation.org.
Anglers between the ages of 16 and 64, will need a fishing permit.

For opportunities to discover nature check out these events at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center.
