These heart shaped cookies are so easy to make. The dough holds its shape wonderfully when baked. Sharp and precise, no misshapen hearts! ???????????? They’re the perfect cookies to bake for a loved one or for Valentine’s Day. ????
You'll need
200 g butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp baking powder
3 1/2 cups flour
For the top;
2 meringues
2 tbsp powdered sugar
2 tsp water
1/2 tsp red beet powder
1 cup = 200 ml
Here's how
For the cookie dough, in a mixing bowl, combine butter, egg yolk, powdered sugar, flour, and baking powder. Knead the mixture by hand until you achieve a soft, non-sticky dough. It should have a smooth consistency.
Take the gathered dough onto a floured surface and divide it into two equal parts. Set one aside and roll out the other with a rolling pin, sprinkling a bit of flour until you reach the desired thickness. Gently cut the rolled-out dough into heart shapes using your molds. Feel free to use different molds or a glass if you prefer.
Repeat the process for all the dough, shaping and arranging the cookies on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 12 minutes.
Once the cookies are out of the oven, let them cool, and then decorate them as desired. To decorate like we did, take meringue in a bowl and crush it until it becomes powdery.
Continue crushing while adding beetroot powder. Add powdered sugar and water, stirring until you achieve a smooth consistency. At this stage, you can adjust the amount of beetroot powder or food coloring to customize the color tone.
Cover the cookies with the prepared mixture and serve. Enjoy your delicious treats!
