FROM NATURE'S BOUNTY, HUNTERS ARE HELPING TO FEED THE HUNGRY. THE MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION WANTS TO HELP YOU TO DISCOVER NATURE AND LEARN ABOUT SHARE THE HARVEST.
IN THE EARLY NINETEEN NINETIES, ARCHERY HUNTERS AROUND COLUMBIA CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF SHARING SOME OF THE DEER MEAT THEY HARVESTED WITH NEEDY FAMILIES. THIS WAS THE START OF THE SHARE THE HARVEST PROGRAM IN MISSOURI.
Many people have no dependable source of protein in their diets. Deer is a valuable source of protein; but, unlike most red meat, it is unusually low in fat. Through Share the Harvest, Missouri hunters can help provide this part of the daily diet.
DONATING IS EASY. SIMPLY TAKE YOUR DEER TO AN APPROVED MEAT PROCESSOR. AND TELL THEM HOW MUCH OF IT YOU WANT TO DONATE. THEY WILL PACKAGE THE MEAT, AND IT WILL BE TAKEN TO A CHARITABLE AGENCY FOR DISTRIBUTION.
ADMINISTERED BY THE CONSERVATION FEDERATION OF MISSOURI AND THE MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION—IN TWO THOUSAND TWELVE, HUNTERS DONATED OVER THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND POUNDS OF VENISON TO LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES.
IF YOU HAVE TOO MUCH DEER MEAT TO EAT, WHY DON'T YOU SHARE THE HARVEST WITH NEEDY FOLKS.
